Even More of: In with the new... Spring 2014 News
Since the last News update much has happened here at PHR.
The upgrade work continued (slowly but surely) with Studio One becoming operational during the summer.
On Saturday 26th October 2013 we had an Official (re)Opening of our Studios, including visits from the local organisers of the Poppy Appeal, and June Spouncer of Hearing Dogs For The Deaf along with Maggie and her Hearing Dog, Rupert.
The big highlight of the afternoon was the Blessing of the Studios by Pilgrim Hospital's Chaplain, Christine Bonnywell.
We are now getting Match Reports from Boston United's home matches on Tuesday evenings from our newest Roving Reporter (and longest-serving current member) Ernie Napier.
When he's not at the football matches he's on air with grandson Ash on Tuesday evenings - Ash even lets Ernie loose on his own for part of the show...
We've also had several new members joining our ranks.
A special mention has to be made of a former Wednesday night presenter, Lucy-Anne Lumb.
Lucy-Anne left in May 2013 to work in Greece for the Summer, hoping to return to PHR in the Autumn.
Unfortunately Lucy-Anne became ill in December and, very sadly, passed away suddenly on the 15th of January 2014. She is greatly missed.
On a cheerful note PHR will be celebrating its 40th Birthday in May - Keep checking this Website for more information.

More of: In with the new... Summer News
It's hard to believe that the last update was over a year ago.... a lot has happened at PHR since then !
Following the change over to stereo broadcasting from Studio 2, the other broadcast studio (surprisingly known as Studio 1) went off-air. Since then the new mixer desk, loads of new cables and all the other things the engineer seemed to love cramming in have been put in, soldered, fastened in place, changed then changed back again until we are now almost ready to go "Live" from Studio 1 as well !
Part of this stage of upgrade is getting telephone-to-air connection restored, so we hope to be able to make and take calls "on air" (Good news for Footie fans as we hope to be able to get Match Reports from Boston United's York Street ground for some of their mid-week home games.
We have also had changes to our Presenter line-up, with some leaving, others taking a break because of other commitments. We do have some new members as Presenters, as well as the recent welcome return of Ernie, who used to present on Sundays over 20 years ago!
Ernie did mention that the Hospital Radio "elastic" had pulled him back to us, although he has been a member for longer than that.
If you would like to join us here at PHR, contact us with your details and we'll get back to you as soon as possible with more information:
email: firstname.lastname@example.org, come to the Studio on the Ground Floor of Pilgrim Hospital (follow the signs to Pilgrim Radio from the Main Entrance) or see our Contact page on this website.

In with the new... Spring News
Phew! It's been a very long time since the last update, but we have had some amazing things happening here at Pilgrim Hospital Radio over the last few months.
Pilgrim Hospital Radio goes STEREO!
It was truly the end of an era on Thursday 5th April when Pilgrim Hospital Radio sent out its last broadcast in Mono. We had been broadcasting in Mono since 1974, but thanks to the Grassroots grant awarded to us we have been able to upgrade to an awesome stereo set up!
Geoff Thompson, Station Engineer, Chairman and Thursday night Presenter of the "Fly By Wire" show, has been working tirelessly to connect the new studio. All the while we had been able to continue broadcasting from Studio 1 whilst much soldering and rewiring was taking place in Studio 2.
Even though we knew we were moving on to new and brighter things, it was still a little sad to see the show go out for the last time on Mono. That weekend, Studio 1's desk was disconnected so work could start on upgrading it to stereo too. Nick Janaway was the first presenter to broadcast his show to the Wards in Stereo at 7pm on Tuesday 10th April and he was joined by presenters Simon Robinson, Geoff Thompson and Helen Weighill to celebrate the occasion. Watch this space for photographs and a video of the event, and for news in the future as we are planning official "Stereo Switchover" events such as an open day to mark the complete studio upgrade.
Yay for stereo!
Fundraising at the Gliderdrome
On Sunday 1st April some of our members made the annual fundraising rounds on Bingo night at the Gliderdrome, Boston.
We raised a total of 33.65, so a big thank you to all those who kindly donated and to the Management and Staff of the Gliderdrome for their hospitality and continued support.
New members galore
We are happy to announce that several new members have joined us over the year and that we continue to interview prospective volunteers. As an entirely voluntarily run Hospital Radio station we always welcome new members who would like to become involved, so please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to join us.
Annual General Meeting
We held our Annual General Meeting on Sunday 19th February and it was attended by many Members and Friends of the Station. The President Ossie Snell, and Chairman Geoff Thompson extended their thanks to all Members and Friends for their continued support and hard work. A buffet was enjoyed afterwards which gave new recruits a chance to get to know everybody.
********* COMING SOON! - SEA BANK MARATHON, SKEGNESS *********
Yes, it's the Seabank Marathon in Skegness on Sunday 20th May and Pilgrim Hospital Radio presenters are going to be there! The marathon is held every year to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care. Our presenters will be broadcasting an all day running commentary of the event and highlighting the runners. So if you're in Skegness for a day out on Sunday 20th May, why not pop along to the Seabank and see what it's all about.

BIIGGG !!! Autumn News
Since the last update to this News section a lot of good things have happened to PHR.
We attended the Volunteer Event in Central Park, Boston at the end of September. Although the weather went from damp, to really hot, to very wet, this was a great event, organised by the Volunteer Bureau.
There were many different local voluntary organisations represented and the public supported it very well. This was a great PR exercise for us, raising the profile of PHR.
On Sunday 31st October we took a collection at Gala Bingo, raising the great total of 140.00 !! Many thanks go to all involved for that effort.
Whist all this has been going on, along with the day-to-day running of the station, several members of the Committee have been working to secure funding to upgrade the studio equipment. At the end of September we were informed that we were successful in our application for a Grassroots Grant from Lincolnshire Community
Foundation. We have now received the cheque for 5000.00 towards the upgrade and are progressing with ordering the new equipment.
We are still getting plenty of new applications, mainly through the Volunteer Bureau.
On the website, we have now updated the link for Dedications with a new form that emails the request straight back to us at the studio.
Just to prove the technology works for us, we recently received requests by email, several from a lady in Leeds and one from a patient's relative in New Zealand !

Early Summer (?) News
The two events we attended over the past weekend, the Boston Woods celebration and the Annual Seabank Marathon were well supported by our various members. This year the weather was almost perfect for the Marathon with no rain or gales (like 2009). The sun also shone on Boston for a busy day at Boston Woods Park.
We are now looking forward to our Street Collection in Boston Town Centre on Saturday 26th June, from around 8:30 in the morning.
See You There !!

Fundraising events for 2010
On the Sunday before Easter, several of our members made our annual visit to the Gliderdrome in Boston for a collection from the Bingo-goers. Despite the current economic problems, the kind people still managed to donate around 50 pounds to PHR. Many Thanks if you were one of those who gave, and especially to the Management and Staff of The Gliderdrome for their usual hospitality.
In the future we will be at Skegness for the finish of the Seabank Marathon and at Boston Woods Park for their 10th Year celebration (BOTH on Sunday 13th June 2010).
On Saturday 26th June we will be around various parts of Boston for a Charity Street Collection (the first time this has been done by us for a very long time!). Look Out for our members with their Collecting Tins - Please Give Generously if you can.

Annual General Meeting 2010
It's that time again !
PHR's Annual General Meeting took place this year on Sunday 21st February 2010, at Pilgrim Hospital.
This meeting is primarily for Members and Friends of Pilgrim Hospital Radio, but is open to members of the public.
The members of the managing committee of the Station were all re-elected, but we sadly accepted the resignation of our Secretary.
We also discussed how the past year has gone and made plans for the year ahead, including various fundraising events taking place throughout the year. More details of these will follow shortly - Keep Checking This News Page -

Recycle For Charity
Do you use a laser or inkjet printer? Fed up of just filling the rubbish bin with the empty cartridges?
Let PHR Help You Help Us !!
We collect used Inkjet and Laser printer cartridges to help raise money towards replacing our studio mixer desks (now over 20 years old) with new, updated models.
Please drop off any cartridges at our studio in Pilgrim Hospital any weekday evening, 7-10pm. If you have a large quantity (40-50+) that you would like to donate, please drop us an email, or leave a message on Boston 351226 so we can be ready to store them.
(Please put the cartridges in a plastic bag so they cannot leak out any remaining ink - there's usually some - Thank You).

Open Weekend and Raffle Draw Update
Our Open Weekend in October was a great success. We attracted more potential new members to the station, managed to brighten up the weekend for the lucky winners of our 2009 Raffle (and raised extra funds towards the running of the station).
We were pleased to have one of our former presenters, Paul Russell of BBC Lincolnshire, to draw the raffle. We were also pleased to show the latest addition to the studio - computer-based music going "live" on-air.
We are now upgrading the software to the OTS Audio Play system which will make life easier for our volunteers to play requests for the patients, staff and visitors.
10th & 11th October 2009
Open Weekend and Raffle Draw
On Saturday & Sunday 10-11th October 2009 we will be having another Open Weekend at our Studio. We will be broadcasting from 12 mid-day until 5:00pm both days and will have our stall in the Foyer of Pilgrim Hospital, selling assorted Hospital Radio goodies and Raffle Tickets for our 2009 Raffle.
Come in to have a look around our Studio, meet some of our team and maybe even go "on air". Look out for us around the hospital with our Radio Mic - interviewing various patients, visitors and staff throughout the two afternoons.
On Sunday, around 4:00pm, the Raffle will be drawn in the Foyer by Paul Russell of BBC Radio Lincolnshire. Paul is also an ex-member of PHR, now a presenter and newscaster for our local BBC station.

News Update Autumn 2014
I can't believe that it's been nearly two years since this Website was updated..
Since the last News Update PHR's 40th Birthday has come and gone. We had several celebrations, with the most recent being a visit from June Snowden, President of the Hospital Broadcasting Association.
June came to us on August 2nd 2015 to present Des Portas with his own 40 Years Long Service Award for Hospital Broadcasting.
As I type this I am listening to Shiela, back on-air on a Monday eveningafter far-too-long an absence from the airwaves.
*** There in a New Way To Contact PHR From The Bedside on the Hospedia Entertainment System ***
Just pick up the 'phone on the Hospedia unit, dial *800 and either speak directly to one of our members, or you can leave a message, request or dedication.
We are hoping to revamp this website over the next few months, including photos of some of our presenters (although some are better heard than seen).
We'll be back soon with more News...
